As we jump start our Spring 2021 semester programming, we want to offer you the opportunity to engage with the Petey Greene Program community members and social justice practitioners striving for a more just world.
Please join us for the first of three webinars in our Spring 2021 Justice Education Series. On Thursday, February 18 at 6 p.m. ET, PGP will host a webinar titled What does it Mean to be a Justice Oriented Citizen? Students, Activists, And Scholars Speak. Dr.Dara Walker, Chavonte Wright, and Ayanna Lyons will be in conversation about what it means to be a justice-oriented citizen during this moment of upheaval and reckoning. This conversation will help shift us from singularly acting as charitable citizens — concerned with alleviating the consequences of unjust systems—to justice-oriented citizens—concerned with the root causes of injustices and pursuing systemic change.
Panelists will address questions like (1) How have student-led social justice movements in the past operated, (2) What does a career in social justice look like, (3) what are the different pathways through which we can pursue systemic change, and (4) How do you join those directly impacted to end mass incarceration?
