The Worcester Telegram & Gazette in conjunction with The Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce and Discover Central Massachusetts, presents Worcester’s first Dragon Boat Festival at DCR Regatta Point and Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday, September 23, 2017. This event is great for businesses looking for team building, family, friends and community groups looking for a good time! It includes dragon boat races for amateurs and club teams, performances, food, music, activities for kids & much more.
Want to be a part of history? Attend the inaugural year of the Worcester Dragon Boat Festival! This family friendly event includes dragon boat races, cultural performances, vendors, food, music, activities and more! This festival is an opportunity to celebrate the diverse cultures in Worcester County and come together as a community to enjoy all the festival has to offer.
Practice days will be available leading up to the event at DCR Regatta Point and Lake Quinsigamond, and will be confirmed closer to race day. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! Boats, PFDs, practices and all paddle equipment is all included in the boat price. Each boat holds 22 people, including one professional steer person. Teams consist of 21 members: 20 paddlers and one drummer who will sit at the front and keep everyone paddling together.
*Must be at least 15 years old as of September 23, 2017 to race. Each team member will be required to sign a waiver form. Under 18 must be signed by parent/legal guardian.
What is a Dragon Boat Race?
A dragon boat is a large canoe style boat that is decorated like a dragon. It’s made with fiberglass and measures about 46’ long.
A dragon boat teams consist of 21 members: 20 paddlers and one drummer who will sit at the front and keep everyone paddling together.
Anyone 15 and older can participate in a dragon boat race, just get a team together. No experience necessary, we will teach you everything you need to know and offer practice times too! Compete for prizes and of course bragging rights!
Corporate teams, groups of friends, family and co-workers, club and professional teams are all welcome! All paddling equipment & PFDs are provided and your team will participate in at least two 250 meter races. Boats and management is provided by Dynamic Dragon Boat Racing, LLC.
